Thailand BETONG Trip - Know More on our PKM History

We have visited to BETONG in Thailand during Labour Holiday on 1 May 2010. It is a very interesting trip - we have an opportunity to know more on PKM history.

What is PKM? Read below -

Parti Komunis Malaya (b. Inggeris: Malayan Communist Party) atau singkatannya PKM ialah sebuah pertubuhan yang diasaskan di Tanah Melayu (sekarang Malaysia) pada tahun 1930. Pertubuhan ini menentang penjajahan British yang ketika itu itu sedang memerintah Tanah Melayu. Ketika kedatangan Jepun, PKM membentuk Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA) untuk berperang dengan mereka.

Betong (Thai: เบตง) is a town (thesaban mueang) in southern Thailand, near the boundary to Malaysia. It is the capital of Betong district, the southernmost district of Yala Province. As of 2005, the town has a population of 24,688.

Betong is the southernmost town of Thailand. [1] Across the Malaysia-Thailand border by the Keroh pass is the state of Perak. Betong is popular with tourists from nearby Malaysia[2] .

Betong is a district of Yala Province, situated in the southernmost province of Thailand in Sankalakhiri mountain range. With an are of 1,328 sq. km, it borders the Malaysian states of Kedah and Perak. Its terrain is mostly mountainous and hilly with forested plateaus. About 1,900 feet above sea level, it is 140km from Yala and 1,224km from the capital city of Bangkok.

Betong, meaning bamboo, is named in the Malay language. It is administratively divided into 4 tambons, i.e. Yarom, Aiyerweng, Tanah Merah, Tan Namtip, and one municipality - the Tambon Betong Municipality.

With a population of around 48,487 which can be classified into two major groups Muslims and Chinese, the majority of its people are agriculturists. Climatically speaking, Betong is under the influence of the Southwest and Northwest monsoons. Therefore, there is a lot of rain and the weather is nice and cool with fog in the morning. This is perhaps how it got is name - 'A Town in the Mist with Beautiful Flowers'.

We are not saying good bye to our friends since we know we all will meet again in somewhere............ It is too early to say good bye .......

We have conducted a farewell lunch for our two lovely colleaugues who going to leave the organization by next few weeks.

We have enjoy a very good and delicious lunch. For sure, we will order the most famous food here - the steam CRAB Rice.

Besides, we also order some other famous dishes like - Curry Potatoes Leave, Mamec Chicken, Seafood ToFoo, Guiness Stout Pai kut, Steam fish.

I have obtained 6 stitches from last Tioman Trip in Mid April 2010. Dr Rupar from Tioman Island has done the small operation for me. She is from Mynmar. She is a very nice lady and she able to comfort me when she saw me admit the island clinic with bloody hand..........

My thumb injurded during my first snokerling in Tioman Island..............
My thumb start recover after 10 days.............see the pictures!
